Christopher Nolan's mythic action epic, The Odyssey, is a film we've been eagerly awaiting ever since it was revealed. It easily ranks as one of the most awaited films of 2026. In a festive surprise, a trailer has finally arrived, even if it's compromised due to the platform's low-quality encoding—maybe illustrating why Nolan initially kept the preview exclusive to cinemas.

A First Glimpse at the Legendary Cast

The debut footage showcases Matt Damon portraying Odysseus. Audiences are introduced to Tom Holland as Telemachus and Anne Hathaway depicting the loyal wife. During an emotional scene, Penelope asks Odysseus to promise he will return, to which he respond by asking what happens if he cannot. Furthermore, the preview provides a quick, obscured look of the mythical one-eyed giant, from whom sheep are Odysseus and his crew steal during their arduous journey.

Based upon a foundational pillar of Western literature, The Odyssey chronicles the lengthy quest undertaken by the famed ruler. Following his victory at Troy, as told within the companion epic, Odysseus endures an extended and hazardous return to his homeland.

Mythical Encounters with an All-Star Cast

On his travels, Odysseus confronts numerous obstacles and mythical beings. This roster features the enchantress Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, and the deceptive Sirens. Despite these trials, Odysseus vows to do whatever it takes to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus on his home island.

The adaptation's cast is remarkably star-studded. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway is Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, together with Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.

A Tale of Many Adaptations

The classic poem has seen many reinterpretations over the years. These range from modern retellings to a 1999 ballet. It has even been a stage musical adaptation titled Epic: The Musical, released in the form of a multi-part album series.
